As of January 2018, we ask players to make a note on their own Activity Check post to indicate that they are on hiatus for a given AC period (a comment with "HIATUS" in the title and a link to your hiatus notice on this page is sufficient).
You may post it during or before the AC period, if you're uncertain if you'll be around then, and if you end up deciding to do AC you can just delete the comment from your AC post and submit AC as normal.
