Can transformations be based on alien animals and just plain aliens from a character's canon? Would particularly unusual tongues - like, both blue and forked, or long+prehensile+hollow and straw-like - be uncommon, or could one common change build on another? Can extra eyes be compound?

The character I reserved is from a shared universe. The second author who wrote her didn't read the original story and went wildly OOC. Can I just take those events in broad strokes? In addition I picked a PB for her and had art made years before she got an official appearance, can I just use my visuals?
