I came here to ask this, and find that somebody has already gotten most of it answered! How convenient.

I do have a follow-up: would it be feasible for characters to willingly sign up in exchange for getting rid of their intermittent possession? And would the Ringmaster think they were fair and square with that, with no debt to do anything else special for them?
