ACTIVITY CHECK
REQUIREMENTS↴ As an excellent idea stolen gratefully from other games, Lost Carnival will be using the Permanent Activity post model of doing things. This means that instead of posting to a monthly activity check in the OOC comm, when you first join you will post a blank comment for your character, and from then on all future activity checks will be posted in reply to that comment. Activity check can be passed with the following: ► 10 comments of activity from your character, from at least two different log top-levels. It cannot be passed with: ► Network chatter, IC notes, anything that isn't an in-person interaction. ► Threads from the TDM. Inbox threads are eligible as basic AC if they involve an in-person interaction. While radio stuff can't be used for basic activity requirements, it can be used for gaining bonus AC. As of January 2018 AC, we require players to leave a comment on their AC post to indicate they are are on hiatus! A hiatus vetoes the need to submit actual activity proofs; it does not veto the need to check in. This is primarily to prevent idling. Keep in mind that the mods reserve the right to refuse thread proofs if they appear to be composed excessively of single comments or comments made exclusively at the end of the AC period. (Single comments to round off sets is fine; using 5 or more single comments is not.) Note: TDM threads cannot be used for bonus AC if the thread was started (meaning when the initial reply to a toplevel post was made) before your acceptance into the game. If the threads were started after you were accepted as clarified here, you can use them for bonus AC. We save AC point information for up to 3 months after a character has dropped in case a player wishes to re-app. After this period, they will have to start from scratch. AC STRIKES↴ Initially the mods had intended to play it by ear when it comes to people being unable to fulfill activity - the most important thing to us is that people who want to play and are able to play be able to continue in the game. We don't want to have to boot otherwise engaged players because of one bad month. However, playing this loosely has resulted in a lot of confusion, so in an effort to deal with this issue with a bit more of an even hand, we are going to start using an official process. It goes like this: ► If you don't have enough for AC on a given check, the mods may permit you to stay in game and take a STRIKE. This will only take effect if you actively contact us and express your interest in remaining in game, or submit an AC post explaining your lack of activity. ► While you have a strike, you cannot take hiatuses for any reason. To clear a strike, you must tag enough to receive at least one Bonus Activity Set. That is, you need at least 25 extra tags beyond your standard AC, but the source doesn't matter. ► Strikes should be cleared within 2 months at most. Failure to do so may result in a reprimand from the mods, requirement to drop one character if you have two, or expulsion from the game. ► Based on past activity, the mods can refuse to allow you the use of the strike system. That is, if you are constantly almost failing AC, we may choose to kick you from the game despite you asking for a strike. We reserve the right to refuse a strike for that or any other reason we deem appropriate. BONUS POINTS↴ Lost Carnival offers bonus points for player participation in threads that help improve the game experience for others. The x1 number beside each title represents how many times each month this bonus can be taken. For example, since "NPCing Carnival Guests" is listed with a x2, that means you can take the reward for that activity up to two times in one AC period. You may even use one thread to meet multiple requirements, therefore earning multiple bonus point totals. Rewards points can be spent here. ► 25 Long Tags (5 pt) x6 total sets of Spam, Regular, or Long You may receive 5pts for every 25 Long Tags you post. These comments can be taken from multiple threads, but may not include comments used to pass AC. To qualify as a Long Tag, a comment must have at least 2-3 paragraphs worth of text. For clarity's sake, two paragraphs can also mean 150 words or more, but we are not expecting you to word count every tag to find out. As long as you're hitting about that length or more for all the tags you're counting, you'll be good. We are looking to be fair, not to be nit-picky jerks about it. If you have a thread with mostly Long Tags and a few one liners thrown in, you can disclude those short tags (or add them to another bonus section) and use the rest. Whether it is network or in-person based does not matter. ► 25 Regular Tags (3 pt) x6 total sets of Spam, Regular, or Long You may receive 3pts for every 25 Regular Tags you post. These comments can be taken from multiple threads, but may not including comments used to pass AC. A Regular Tag is anything that isn't a Long Tag or a Spam tag. It's really just that simple. Whether or not it's network or log doesn't matter - for clarity's sake that means roughly more than 30 words and less than 150 words, on average. Again, you don't have to meticulously word count every comment to submit. Those estimates are so you have an idea of what we mean, and as long as you're in that ballpark it will be fine. Leftover Long Tags that cannot be used for their own bonus may be included to reach the Regular Tag bonus. ► 25 Spam Tags (2 pt) x6 total sets of Spam, Regular, or Long You may receive 2pts for every 25 short Spam Tags you post. These comments can be taken from multiple threads, but may not including comments used to pass AC. A Spam Tag (commonly referred to as "comment spam" within general DWRP culture) is most often quick, dialogue based conversations - usually taking place on the network, but not exclusively. For AC purposes, a Spam Tag is any series of tags where the average tag is two sentences or less. This is a ballpark estimate, so you can also consider this to mean approximately 30 words or less. Leftover Regular Tags and Long Tags that cannot be used for their own bonus may be included to reach the Spam Tag bonus. ► Event Participation (5 pt) x2 You will receive 5pts for posting at least 10 comments in any game wide event. You cannot take this bonus more than once for any individual event. An event is only valid for these points if it is open to the entire game unless otherwise stated. The reward is for interacting with the the specific prompts of an event post, during the same period an event post is active. So for example, you could still make a side post still interacting with the prompts outlined in the event log. However, you can only claim participation in a specific event once. ► NPCing Carnival Guests (2 pt) x2 You will receive 2pts for each thread in which you play an NPC Guest for the benefit of a thread's purpose. These threads must be at least 10 comments in length (all together) and the NPC must be a significant presence throughout. ► NPCing Antagonists (3 pt) x3 You will receive 3pts for each thread in which you play an NPC Antagonist. The NPC must provide conflict or antagonize player characters to count. These threads must be at least 10 comments in length (all together) and the NPC must be a significant presence throughout. A good example of these are combat threads in which you play the monsters, or threads where you playa mook villain who antagonizes other characters. You may not earn these points for antagonizing your own character. ► Doing Your Job (2 pt) x3 You will receive 2pts for each thread in which you primarily play out your character doing their assigned job. These threads must be at least 10 comments in length (all together) to count. Characters may be doing other things as well, but the actual performing of their duties should be a significant part of the thread. ► Event Moderation (10 pt) x1 You will receive 10pts for organizing and running any self contained event out of character. Events must be open to a reasonable amount of the game's populace in order to count. For example, small personal plots that include only a small group of characters would not count, but organizing contests or anything else that requires OOC planning, coordination, and log writing would. You may earn these points even if you have already achieved your monthly 30pt maximum. If an event is dropped, dragged out beyond reasonable expectations, or completely flops, it may not count towards this bonus. ► Location Moderation (30 pt) x1 You will receive 30pts for OOCly planning, organizing, and moderating a carnival trip to another world. Essentially, this bonus is for playing mod, usually for the purpose of visiting a specific canon location or for the purpose of running a month long (or longer) plotline that you have created. These events will be run with mod assistance, but the player(s) in charge will be expected to write any events and provide any major NPCing themselves. You may earn these points even if you have already achieved your monthly 30pt maximum. If a location plot is dropped, dragged out beyond reason, or completely flops, it may not count towards this bonus. THE FORM: |
